Mike Helton, COL (RET.), PMP

Director of South Texas

After 25 years in the United States Army, Colonel (Retired) Mike Helton has joined GUY as our Director of South Texas, helping reach more communities and impact lives in Texas. Mike is joining us through the Hiring Our Heros program. Per their website, the “program connects the military community – service members, military spouses, and veterans – with American businesses to create economic opportunity and a strong diversified workforce.”

Now settled in the Houston area, he has three deployments to the Middle East, served in the Pentagon and most recently commanded the Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Mike received his BS in GIS from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an MS in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri-Rolla and an MA in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College. He received his PMP certification from the Project Management Institute.

Mike and his wife Michelle have been married for 24 years, and they have two boys Jake (22) and Seth (13). In his free time, Mike loves playing sports – ultimate football / Frisbee, basketball, softball, running, biking, and golfing. He completed his first half-ironman triathlon (Oregon 70.3) in 2022. He says, “Now that my contact sports days are coming to an end, I’m spending more time trying to figure golf out!”

Mike also rides an Indian Roadmaster Classic motorcycle as part of a motorcycle ministry that he has been a part of since 2009.
