Chimney Rock Rd, Phase 2
GUY designed plans to reconstruct 3.99 miles of Chimney Rock Reservoir Rd and EW 53 from the Chimney Rock Lake reservoir dam to NS 447. Improvements included widening lanes, adding shoulders, correcting sight distance, improving geometry, and correcting drainage problems.
The existing roadway was 21 ft wide with no shoulders, while the new roadway has two 12 ft lanes and 4 ft shoulders. Alignment analysis was conducted for portions of the roadway to determine an option that provides the least impact to wetlands, adjacent property, and drainage.
The project also included replacing one double 96in CGSP bridge with a bridge class RCB.
The GUY team also provided the following land acquisition services for 25 parcels and one BIA parcel:
- Verify and contact property owners
- Coordinate appraisals and appraisal reviews
- Coordinate title work and title curative
- Prepare and make offers
- Negotiate with property owners and close on property
The project had several mortgage releases, ownership changes, a major DHS judgement, and a BIA parcel that slowed the project schedule. Communication with the District Attorney’s office, Housing Authority, and the Cherokee Nation Attorney General’s office was necessary to prevent further delays.
